Sioux Falls School District wanted to provide their District staff with the best possible combination of benefit options to meet their ongoing needs and those of their families. Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Leave

FMLA allows eligible employees to take up to twelve (12) work weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave during a defined twelve-month period for particular medical and family reasons.

Another benefit of the act is that it also requires group health insurance coverage to be maintained while an eligible employee is taking leave.

The District will comply with the provisions of the FMLA and any rights or benefits contained within working agreements that exceed any right or benefits contained in the FMLA. FMLA-approved leave shall occur concurrently with any/all applicable paid leave policies granted pursuant to the respective working agreement.
